Sorry about the long lapse in time since my last post, but here it comes! Have no fear!
A lot has happened since last we chatted. After the opening ceremonies concluded on sunday, monday became the official beginning of the real world chaos (I mean...AWESOMENESS) that is life in Virginia Beach. The students from LT 2013 all started their new jobs. Work orientation took up everyone's first day, and everyone started to adapt quickly to the job roles they have been given. Many work for various hotel chains across the strip of beachfront Virginia Beach. Some have become servers, some bussers, some hosts and hostesses, some became valets, others were chosen for the front desks, and for two lucky people (My friend Megan Didier and I) we were able to make our return appearance at the Princess Anne Country Club.
I suppose now would be a good time to clarify some things. First of all, my job!
The name of the place (as mentioned before) is called the Princess Anne Country Club. I actually don't work in this building, but farther to the right. Down the hill and around the corner there is another building called Breakers. It's in between the pool and the tennis complex and serves as a restaurant and snack bar for the 1100 members of the club. At Breakers, I serve as an inside server (for the small mini-bar restaurant), an outside server by the poolside, a concession worker (for the snack bar next to the pool), and a dishwasher/food runner. It's quite the variety of jobs, and by far one of the best work environments I have ever been able to work in. God has truly blessed me with some awesome opportunities (not to mention the opportunity to watch the French Open and Wimbledon in passing on the big screens at work).
Second of all, my co-worker!
As part of the LT program, most of us are stationed in different places with at least one other person. For me, I got to work with these two awesome ladies of the Lord last year: Lauren in the middle, and Megan on the right. This year I get the pleasure of working with Megan again! She is going to be a junior this coming fall at Ball State University and is studying organizational communications and entrepreneurship. She has a long-life dream of being a professional photographer, and has already started that process by creating her business plan (for her major), making a catchy logo, and also shooting for quite a few events (weddings and general photo shoots). Socially, she is probably one of the boldest personalities out there, and is always willing to jump right into deep conversations and truly gaining understanding of those around her. Plus, she's got the moves, so dancing around the concession stand is a typical encounter for her.
This year, Megan and I have the privilege of being returning members to the Breakers staff, and with that a lot of exciting opportunities are at hand. Sure, not having the same people from the summer before is a bummer, but quite a few have returned and it has made the entire experience get off to a great start this year. But even so, that doesn't take away from the fact that this summer will have its own new set of learning experiences.
An advantage to this is we are able to kind of pick up where we left off. Last summer, ten weeks didn't seem like enough to really dig into the full experience. With learning a new job and a new routine in a very new place, social interaction was limited. Now, being knowledgeable allows us to get into a faster groove and also get into deeper relationships with those we love working with.
One of the best feelings from this experience is the affirmation of those we knew before, to come back after a year and receive excited reactions about us being back. It's already been a crazy awesome time getting to catch up with old friends and get back into the swing of the job atmosphere. Again, praising Him for the position he has placed us in.

One of the main reasons we do what we do in the workplace is to be a light. We work jobs because we need money. We're college students. That is very much true. But we also work in these places, because we want to show the world around us that no matter what one does and wherever one is, it is possible to enjoy every last moment of it, because we know there is a hope that no one can take away from us: the safety and security that can only come from the Lord above. We know that just because we follow Jesus, we are not achieving perfection in this area, but how we deal with the trials that come our way also have a very big impact on how everything turns out. God has got everything under control. Let go and let God.
The motto for our workplaces this summer is quite simple:
"Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." -Colossians 3:17
